The Pine Forest of Milano Marittima
The pine forest is a protected area belonging to a large forest area of over 700 hectares that once extended from the southern bank of the Reno River to the city of Cervia.
Today, approximately 260 hectares of this area remain, in addition to the 30 hectares of the Natural Park. The richness of its flora and fauna makes it of great naturalistic interest.
Two species of Mediterranean pine dominate the vegetation: the maritime pine ( Pinus pinaster ) and the pine kernel pine ( Pinus pinea ). These are joined by poplars, oaks, black locust trees, Mediterranean shrubs such as the juniper, and evergreens such as the holm oak. The green areas alternate with sandy clearings and dunes, damp meadows with tall grasses and rushes, and the typical Ravenna reed. Once upon a time, numerous species of flowers could be counted; today, a few species of orchids still survive.
As for the animal population, the pine forest is home to birds including the scops owl, hoopoe, wryneck, whitethroat, flycatcher, melodious warbler, and the noctule, a rare forest bat mammal associated with the presence of large trees.The wetlands are inhabited by pond turtles and tree frogs and the waterways and canals are rich in fish (nonno, stickleback) and reptiles (throated snake, Aesculapian snake).
Visit the Pine Forest
The pine forest is divided into four areas: stazzone, capanna, dunes and bassona and you can explore 32 paths, on foot, by bike, on horseback or even by canoe in the canals that connect the sea to the salt pan.
In the summer, the Pineta Lovers association organizes eco-friendly walks. There are numerous opportunities for sports in the pine forest, and for those who prefer other activities, Milano Marittima offers plenty of sports: golf, archery, tennis, and all kinds of beach sports, just minutes from the pine forest.
Cervia Natural Park
The pine forest area of Milano Marittima includes the Cervia Natural Park, established in 1963 to safeguard the natural environment and make it accessible to tourists and visitors.
In the heart of a vibrant, modern city like Milano Marittima, this unspoiled corner is more than just a green space. It offers the opportunity to relax amidst the scents and colors of nature, stroll among wild and domestic animals, explore the area, and enjoy themed trails, such as the botanical trail to discover the vegetation and typical plants, including the famous pine tree.
The park offers many opportunities beyond simple walks, with a rich program of events from spring to autumn. There are picnic areas, cafés, fitness trails to keep fit, and even horseback excursions.
At the center of the park is also the Bar Binario 9 e ¾ refreshment point for a lunch break, an aperitif, or a coffee.
The Old Farm
The Old Farm is a small paid area where children and people of all ages can interact with the farm animals. Carolina the cow, Demetra the donkey, geese, chickens, goats, and many other farm animals are welcome to approach and feed, pet, and take some fun photos.
The La Vecchia Fattoria area can only be accessed with guided tours.
