Holidays with your dog in Milano Marittima

Milano Marittima is one of the Riviera's most dog-friendly resorts: over twenty pet-friendly hotels, four beach resorts with equipped areas, and (a real strength compared to the rest of the coast) miles of shaded pine forest, accessible on a leash even during the hottest hours of August, when the sand is scorching.

The rule surprises many: the Port Authority ordinance generally prohibits animals on the beach in summer, but the Emilia-Romagna Region authorizes municipalities to allow them in organized areas, and the Municipality of Cervia (of which Milano Marittima is part) allows it under these conditions:

• Shoreline and water: from 6:00 to 8:00 and from 21:00 to 24:00, accessing from the dedicated walkways.
• During the day only in establishments with a dedicated, delimited and equipped area (list below).
• Leash no longer than 1.50 m, muzzle, registered with the canine registry and up-to-date vaccinations.
• Outside the bathing season, access is free, with no time restrictions.

Along the rest of the municipality's coastline (Cervia, Pinarella, Tagliata) there are six other equipped bathing establishments: the complete list is on turismo.comunecervia.it.

The pine forest in Milano Marittima is the reason why a dog vacation here is so much better than anywhere else: shaded paths accessible on foot from the Traverse, cooler temperatures than on the beach, and soft ground for paws. Dogs must be kept on a leash; always carry water and bags.

• Documents: health booklet with updated vaccinations and microchip.
• The heat: avoid the sand in the central hours (it can exceed 50°C), plan to go to the beach in the early morning or in the evening: these are also the permitted time slots.
• By train: On the line to the Cervia-Milano Marittima station, small dogs must travel in a carrier; larger dogs require a dedicated ticket, leash, and muzzle (check Trenitalia's current conditions).
• At the hotel, ask first: daily supplement, size limits, whether the dog can stay alone in the room, and whether bowls and a kennel are provided.
